What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?
Solving and preventing health problems begins with knowledge, and knowledge can be the key to helping you maintain and live a healthy lifestyle. At The Medical Center of Plano, Medical Nutrition Therapy offers this knowledge.
Just as you would go to the hospital for a blood test, you can now go for nutritional counseling. You will see a Registered Dietitian as an outpatient at the Center for Lifestyle Enhancement. The Dietitian will discuss your medical diagnosis with you and advise you on the best foods to eat. You will be offered the dietary skills to prevent and/or treat disease processes.
What is a Dietitian?
A dietitian is an expert on foods and how they affect your health. A Registered Dietitian (R.D.) has a bachelor's degree in clinical dietetics and is a registered professional.

What is the cost of meeting with a Dietitian?
If you have a Doctor's order for nutrition counseling with a Registered Dietitian, your insurance may pay part or all of the cost. You can find out by calling your insurance company at the phone number on your insurance card. Be sure to advise them that we are a hospital-based program and you will be seen by licensed professionals. If they say this service is covered, ask how many visits you are allowed. The Doctor's order for medical nutrition therapy is like a prescription for medicine. We need the order, but it doesn't guarantee payment.
